10 Quotes That Changed My Life

10 Quotes That Changed My Life

Like everyone, quotes inspire and challenge me. But over the years, there have been a handful of quotes that have really made an impact on my mentality that I’d like to share with you.

Here are 10 of the most impactful quotes that I’ve ever heard, plus my thoughts on how I’ve applied them to my life.

“Control what you can control, accept what you can’t.”

You’ll drive yourself nuts trying to influence things outside of your control. Recognize what things you can truly control (your mentality, thoughts, and actions) and spend your time focusing on that.

“You’re as successful as the questions you ask yourself.”

Everyone has a somewhat narrow perspective. If you’re unhappy with something in your life or career, maybe you’ve been asking yourself the wrong questions. Change the questions and challenge your perspective to find growth and opportunities you never knew existed.

“Whether you think you can or you can’t, you are right.” – Henry Ford

This was the first quote that taught me the importance of self-confidence. It’s essential to be successful at anything in life and to your own happiness. Preparation builds confidence, but ultimately you have to believe in yourself.

“If you have more than 3 priorities, you have none.” – Jim Collins

Today we think that we need more of everything and that we can be kick ass in every area of life. But the truth is, you can’t be successful at everything because if you’re saying yes to one thing, you’re saying no to something else. Narrow your focus and select your top 3 priorities in life. Do more of that and less of the other things that aren’t a priority.

Bonus Quote: “The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.” – Warren Buffet

“It takes what it takes.” – Nick Saban

It’s human nature to do the bare minimum all the time, but that’s a formula for mediocrity. Give your best effort and do what needs to be done to achieve your goals.

Bonus Quote: “Winners never quit and quitters never win.” – Vince Lombardi

Bonus Quote: “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” – Vince Lombardi

“I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” – Michael Jordan

If you’re not failing, you’re not trying hard enough. You learn from failures which improves future decisions. Failing is essential to success.

Bonus Quote: “You will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” – Wayne Gretzky

“Confidence is contagious. So is a lack of confidence.” – Vince Lombardi

You can’t be happy without confidence. You can’t succeed without confidence. But people forget that YOU NEED to be confident to HELP OTHERS be confident and happy.

“People will forget what you said, they’ll forget what you did, but they’ll never forget the way you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou

This line reminds me that ultimately, people will remember our interactions and the way we made them feel. So be kind, be respectful, and be your true self.

“Happiness is a choice” – Aeschylus

Remember that you have to ability to control your thoughts and emotions. If you’re upset or angry, you’re allowing yourself to feel that way. Happiness is a mindset and a big part of it is appreciating your life and letting go of negative thoughts or beliefs when things don’t go the way you want them to go.

Bonus Quote: Happiness is letting go of what you think your life is supposed to look like and celebrating it for everything that it is. – Mandy Hale

“If you want to know the secret to happiness, I can give it to you in one word: progress” – Tony Robbins

This is so true. Some studies show that the pursuit of a goal is often more rewarding than the actual outcome. This goes back to the last point: Set goals. Break them down into manageable steps. Focus on those steps and appreciate the process. When you hit that goal, repeat the process. You’ll be happy you did 🙂

I hope those quotes help inspire you to live a life that you are proud of and leads you to success, no matter how you define it.
