Episode 2: A Calorie Is Not A Calorie – Part 1: Nutrition

We are all simple minded. It is easy for us to understand linear models like calories in/calories out for weight loss or gain. And don’t get me wrong, calories ARE important. But not as important as you might think. In fact, I don’t have ANY of my clients track the number of calories they are eating. Why? Let me explain:

So what do the following foods all have in common:

1) 12 oz can of Bud Light

2) 4 oz chicken breast

3) 1 cup of Pasta

They’re all 100 calories

Ditto For The Junk Food To My 12:00

So if the theory of calories in to calories out holds true, these 3 foods should have the same exact effect on the body, right? Clearly, they don’t. They will have the following:

1) Bud Light – Will make you feel like you’re the next Usher. Then you’ll transform into Adam Richman from Man vs. Food at the Jack In The Box Drive through. Meanwhile, your body has completely halted all fat burning while it desprately tries to detoxify the alcohol. Then JBox feeds the fat storage to officially put you 2 steps back!

2) Chicken – You will actually improve your metabolic rate by 30%, feel full, control blood sugar, replenish your muscles, feel mentally sharper and lock into a fat burning mode for the next 3 hours.

3) Pretty much the opposite of 2. Blood sugar spikes so then insulin is over produced. Next, blood sugar plummets, making you feel tired and craving more carbs. During this process, your body can’t fathom burning stored fat. it has to deal with all this crap!

2 weeks of free training (to new customers) to whoever can tell me the best option of the 3 is?

If you guessed #2, then congratulations! You have a keen eye for the obvious!

So what is the secret to fat loss and lean body maintenance? You’ll find out in Part 2.
